Building Our Sturgeon Pond
As you can see from the photos, its a bit of a beast
Like the pond, the filter system is also big, although not at all complicated and is off our own construction.
Water leaving the pond via the bottom drain is pumped through a 110W UV to the header tank above the main filter. There it passes through several layers of mesh matting to remove any solids before being discharged through a 100mm vertical pipe to the bottom of the main filter chamber.
Within the main chamber the water is heavily aerated as it rises through 800L of media to discharge back to the pond via the 110mm black coloured pipe in the photo above. As I said simple, but effective, when you consider that a typical canister filter only holds about 1 litre of media.
